Iowa City Community School District Department Head QUALIFICATIONS: Physically able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods and to walk much of the time during the day.
Must be able to follow instructions for food production and inventory management.
Able to tolerate a warm, noisy work environment.
Maintains high standards of personal hygiene and job performance.
Is honest and dependable and is discreet in regard to information concerning school children and staff.
Must have manual dexterity to handle knives and other pieces of equipment and follow all safety guidelines.
Is able to work calmly and complete jobs in a timely manner, even under stressful conditions.
Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to satellite locations as needed.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager, Director of Nutrition Services SUPERVISES: With the assistance of the Kitchen Manager, will supervise the staff working in the department, including the Department Second.
JOB GOALS: To enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child, by providing nutritious, delicious and appetizing meals.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Is able to prepare all menu items in large quantities by using appropriate methods and standardized recipes.
Assist with serving, cashiering and cleaning, including equipment.
Has specific preparation responsibilities and directs the work of staff in the department.
Maintains high food quality standards and recognizes properly prepared food items by temperature sight, taste and smell.
Maintains high food safety standards in the department, including proper food handling and temperatures.
Is able to properly use quantity food service production equipment including ovens, griddles, steamers, steam kettles, slicers, mixers, dish machine, and other equipment.
Follows established sanitation guidelines for both food preparation and clean-up.
Must be able to perform with accuracy mathematical calculations and maintain department production records, including portion sheets.
Responsible for department ordering and inventory management following department protocols and procedures.
Complete required training as assigned.
Other duties as assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 175 Contract Days + 14 hrs required training.
Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
