Position Description:
The Magid Center for Writing at the University of Iowa invites applications for a 100%, non-tenure track, Lecturer position to begin August 2024.
The initial appointment period for this position is one year with the possibility of extension for a total of three years; the position is renewable thereafter in three-year increments.
The successful candidate will have expertise in professional and community-based writing, teaching, and curriculum development.
The Lecturer position will teach in-person and virtual courses, and the teaching load is anticipated to be 4/4.
Applications are sought from candidates with a demonstrated potential for outstanding undergraduate teaching across disciplines, experience building community partnerships and supporting outreach and engagement efforts, and excellent organizational skills.
Candidates must be able and excited to teach both a professional communication course and a fast-paced, rigorous experiential learning course through which undergraduates volunteer with local area nonprofits.
This position entails teaching one section of WRIT:2100 Writing and Community Outreach (3 s.
h.
), two sections of WRIT:3005 Professional and Creative Business Communications (3 s.
h.
), and one additional course each semester.
WRIT:2100 is a community-engaged course in which student teams will partner with a local arts-focused nonprofit to bring initiatives to fruition.
WRIT:3005 explores the techniques, strategies, and craft of writing résumés, letters of interest, email and its related etiquette, and organization of ideas into presentable form.
Instructors for this course must show knowledge and experience in professional communication.
This course is taught both on-campus and online.
