The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a 80% -100% Medical Assistant II to work at the Surgery Specialty Clinic.
Position Summary: The Surgery Specialty Clinic is home to the Emergency General Surgery and Plastics Clinic.
The EGS clinic sees patients for evaluation of hernias, gallbladder, lipomas, and follow up trauma care.
The Plastics clinic sees patients seeking Plastic Reconstructive Surgery for body, face, skin, breast, and cosmetic procedures.
They also offer Botox injections for migraines and cosmetic purposes.
There are two minor Rooms for specialized procedures to be done under local anesthetic.
The Surgery Specialty Clinic care team includes doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistant, registered nurses, licensed practical nurse, medical assistants, and physicians in training.
The team works together to provide a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to best serve the patient and the family.
The Surgery Specialty Clinic Team provides an enjoyable atmosphere for staff that includes ongoing professional growth and development.
Duties to include: Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, nurse manager/assistant nurse manager or other licensed designee, functions as a member of the ambulatory patient care team performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs patient care related to vital signs, reviewing medications, allergies, lab draws, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, in-clinic treatments, point of care testing, removing staples and/or sutures, assisting with dressing changes, administering immunizations as ordered, and other duties as assigned.
Takes and uploads photos of wounds and Plastic Surgery Reconstruction.
Setting up sterile field and assisting with Plastics and General Surgery minor procedures.
Stocks room with appropriate medical supplies and appropriate linens.
Provides psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs.
Attends and participates in staff meetings.
Collects specimens for routine and specialized testing such as urinalysis and venipuncture using proper collection techniques and special processes as defined by specific specimen collection requirements.
Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
Treats matters with confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Demonstrates consideration and respect for patients, families, and co-workers always.
Completes on-line and in-service education programs annually and as required/offered.
Other tasks as assigned.
