The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking a Staff Nurse to Assist technologists and physicians with procedures within interventional radiology department.
Duties Establish rapport with patient and provide information about how the exam is performed and what is required of the patient.
Under direct supervision of a Radiology staff physician and/or Department of Radiology manager/designee Assists with basic patient care services in all areas within the Department of Interventional Radiology and other areas as needed.
Implements interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Follows universal precautions.
Demonstrate acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance.
Follow policies and procedures in accordance with regulations set forth by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Department of Radiology, the University of Iowa, and the Iowa Department of Public Health Paramedic Scope of Practice.
Prepare surgical area for patient care and anticipate the needs of the surgical team Apply knowledge related to emergency situations and surgical procedures Demonstrate understanding of principles of medical and surgical asepsis; recognize and communicate breaks in aseptic technique Provide for proper care and handling of equipment, instruments, supplies and implants.
Demonstrate knowledge of various surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation Demonstrate competency in performance of delegated technical functions and clinical activities, in accordance with institutional policies Assist with the provision of patient care regarding the patient's condition and age Exhibit high level of collaboration with peers in making decisions related to surgical patient care Demonstrate critical thinking skills in relations to anticipating the needs of the patient and proceduralist Implement measures to prevent potential patient problems/complications and reports unusual incidents Assist with documentation according to department/division standard under the direction of the interventional technologist.
Perform computer functions within scope of role as defined by the individual unit Serve as primary preceptor to orient new staff and/or student technologists to scrubbing duties Serve as a mentor and positive role model to new employees Practice standard precautions in infection control in accordance with institutional policy Follow changes in patient care protocol based on research findings Participate in and contribute to unit staff meetings and in-service programs Perform other special projects and tasks as assigned University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center.

edu/pay/pay-plans/seiu-pay-plan Benefits Highlights: Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa Fringe benefit package including paid vacation; sick leave; health, dental, life and disability insurance options; and generous employer contributions into retirement plans For more information about Why Iowa?, click here EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required.
Demonstrated history of positive and professional interactions with patients, families, professional health care staff, and interdisciplinary team members via written, verbal and in-person communication(s).
Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment while functioning in a multi-disciplinary team.
Must take On-Call assignment (arrival at UI Hospitals & Clinics within 20-30 minutes required).
Knowledge of drug and medical terminology.
Knowledge of institutional and unit policies, processes, and forms.
Ability to perform patient care as delegated.
Ability to transport monitored patients.
Ability to use a computer.
Ability to maintain and stock inventory.
Ability to alter work schedule to meet unit/patient needs.
Ability to setup and maintain sterile field.
Desired Qualifications: 1-3 years direct nursing care experience in Critical Care (ER, ICU), Cardiovascular Care, and/or Operating Room within last 6 months.
EPIC experience.
