The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Nurse Manager to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Department Director.
Position Specific Summary
Provide managerial and clinical leadership for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Unit (1JPW).
Candidates will ensure that all staff provide safe clinical care and have the education, methods and resources to accomplish their performance objectives.
Positions in this job family usually have limited involvement in direct patient care and focus their efforts in planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and improving health care operations, clinical education programs and research programs of clinical and health service departments.

Education or Equivalency Required
Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field.
If Master’s Degree is in related field, Baccalaureate in Nursing is required.
If qualified applicant does not have Master’s Degree in Nursing, the applicant will need to complete an advanced degree in nursing, health care administration, or business administration within five years of beginning this position.
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa or ability to obtain an Iowa license by date of hire is required.
Required Qualifications:
Considerable (3-5 years) experience in leadership/management roles to include prior experience working with regulatory bodies and survey readiness.
Previous RN experience with the psychiatric patient population
Demonstrates skills for leading change and implementation of evidence based practice.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and interdisciplinary team leadership skills.
Must be proficient in computer software applications
Certification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body.
If not currently certified must seek certification in a role or specialty as soon as eligible to sit for the exam
Demonstrate job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with both medicine and psychiatric patient population
Previous experience working in a large academic medical center
Experience working in a union environment
