University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E.
Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on Jan.
31, 2024.
Under general supervision performs activities associated with drug distribution and control for outpatient and clinic patient dispensing.
Provides functional supervision as required.
Job Responsibilities:
· Advances the quality of patient care and contributes to safe medication-related practices through participation in performance improvement initiatives.
· Assists pharmacy staff in providing clinical services that meet the quality, financial, and strategic objectives of the hospital and the department.
· Assists the pharmacy director, hospital departments, and medical staff in effecting compliance with The Joint Commission standards, other external medication management standards, regulatory goals, and quality metrics.
· Provides leadership through development and implementation of pharmacy clinical services and by developing the clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacy staff.
· Identifies educational needs relative to medication management and provides drug information and education to hospital and medical staff, patients, and community groups.
· Participates in formulary management through evaluation of medication use and discussion of therapeutic alternatives with medical staff.
· Serves as a key member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and participates in other committees as assigned.
· Participates in physician-pharmacist collaborative practice agreements and hospital protocols for pharmacist-provided medication management services as both a provider and a peer reviewer.
· Provides pharmaceutical care services, such as pharmacokinetic consults and optimization of medication therapy, to patients served by Mercy medical staff as assigned.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.

· Routine hospital pharmacy equipment and office automation are used.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

S.
from ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy, w/ an advanced degree relevant to appt.
, required.
ASHP-accredited residency in clinical/hospital pharmacy, or equivalent experience, required.
Strong analytical and communication skills, required.
Current licensure as a pharmacist, by the Iowa State Board of Pharmacy Examiners, required.
Job-related experience with and/ or commitment to diversity in the work environment is required.
Desired Qualifications:
3 years of experience in clinical/hospital pharmacy, preferred.
Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification, preferred.
