Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:
Triages phone calls from patients, pharmacies, and other medical practices to determine appropriate action and relaying to provider when needed
Prepares for the exam prior to the appointment by reviewing the patient’s history, ensuring previous test results and referral notes are available in the electronic health record (EHR), and documenting changes in the EHR where needed
Prepares the patient for the exam by taking a detailed history, complete set of vitals, and documenting the information in the EHR
Assists with the collection and preparation of laboratory specimens, informs patient of results, and documents results and patient notification in the EHR
Obtains prior authorization for diagnostic testing and medications from the insurance company when needed
Assists the provider with the exam and procedures to include performing EKGs, administering medications and injections, documentation in the EHR, and ensuring the completion of provider orders
Assists the patient after the exam to ensure understanding of the plan of care provided, ability of the patient to comply with the plan of care, and provides education when needed
Sets up appointments for referrals ordered by the provider, follows up to ensure appointment was kept, and ensures documentation from the referral is received
Assists the provider with medication refills to include gathering needed information, communicating with the pharmacy, and performing refills when standing orders apply
Maintains exam rooms and equipment to include cleaning, sterilization, restocking of supplies, and ensuring equipment is in working order.
Notifies supervisor of needed supplies and repair needs
Provides necessary clerical support, such as completing requisitions, filing etc
Perform other duties as assigned
Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Location: Iowa City, Iowa
Salary: $60,000 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate *This does not include differentials.
Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours.
Inpatient differential of $5,000 per year based on percent time

Education Required
An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
Experience Required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
General computer skills are required
Certifications:
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
Desirable Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired
If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
Previous telemetry experience is desired
Knowledge of University policies and procedures
