*Requirements:*
· Accredited nursing school graduation.
· Active RN license in Iowa or compact state.
· Current or obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 6 months.
*Job Responsibilities:*
· Collects detailed admission history and conducts physical assessments following unit policies.
· Distinguishes between normal and abnormal assessment findings.
· Prioritizes and addresses abnormal findings promptly.
· Proactively identifies potential health concerns in both hospital and home settings.
· Demonstrates continuous assessment of patients' psychosocial, physiological, and educational processes.
· Recognizes subtle changes in physical and mental status, documenting them accordingly.
· Integrates diagnostic information into patient assessment and care.
· Analyzes ongoing assessments to identify learning and discharge needs.
· Integrates assessment data to formulate individualized nursing diagnoses.
· Develops a personalized plan of care, focusing on various patient needs.
· Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to discuss and disseminate information regarding patient care.
· Modifies the individualized plan of care based on ongoing assessments and changes in patient status.
· Re-evaluates goals and coordinates holistic care.
· Anticipates and manages changing situations effectively.
· Administers prescribed treatments and medications promptly, adhering to hospital policies.
· Provides functional supervision of ancillary staff, guiding them in patient care decisions.
· Utilizes patient care opportunities for teaching self-care information.
· Recognizes patient readiness to learn and develops individualized teaching plans.
· Reinforces teachings from the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
· Monitors patient response to interventions and assesses progress towards goals.
· Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by ancillary nursing personnel.
· Documents nursing process thoroughly and clearly using appropriate hospital forms or technology.
· Engages patients and their significant others in the nursing process.
· Acts as a patient advocate, respecting rights and confidentiality.
· Promotes effective communication and utilizes information systems appropriately.
· Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking in the nursing process.
· Organizes and prioritizes nursing care while being accountable.
· Recognizes and addresses the strengths and limitations of peers.
· Anticipates and takes appropriate action in emergency and complex patient care situations.
· Participates in performance improvement activities and incorporates recommendations into patient care.
· Understands and operates within the guidelines of the Department of Nursing's organizational structure.
· Utilizes the chain of command and appropriate communication procedures.
